I’m really struggling to get excited this year. Last year was so much fun, not knowing whether The Social Network would be able to beat The Kings Speech and desperately hoping that maybe, just maybe, Toy Story 3 would bag it.
I have seen seven of the nominated nine best films and The Artist is, without question, the best of them and will of course sweep the board. However it really is dull, firstly the fact that most of the years best films have been ignored ie Kevin, Shame etc but also just having absolutely no sense of anticipation, however deserving The Artist may be. I also think it’s really rather stale and sad to bring back Billy Crystal after James Franco and Anne Hathaway were so great last year. I understand that no-one really got them and their sense of humour was aimed at a tiny few of us but I mean really! It’s such a damn awful shame they didn’t get those Muppets.
So no thanks Sky Movies, I will watch the red carpet and I will look at the dresses and I will spend a long time tomorrow reading about it I’m sure, but you have bored me this year Oscar before you’ve even begun.
Having said that, my geeky instincts would not allow me to let the year go by without making a few predictions. I can’t do all the categories though as there’s still quite a few things I’m yet to see.
